Alicia did new interview with
A huge thanks for the photos & interview goes to WWD’s official website.
Alicia Vikander’s Acting Career Heats Up Alicia Vikander, the 24-year-old Swedish actress who’s lately caught the eye of casting directors the world over, says that when she first started out, the idea of breaking out of Scandinavia hadn’t even occurred to her.
“People ask me, ‘Did you dream of going to Hollywood?’ and the truth is, no. I hadn’t seen anyone else do it. Of course, I grew up with Greta Garbo and Lena Olin — and then there’s Noomi Rapace, who is almost 10 years older than me, who managed to do it with her film ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,’” the actress says a few days after making the rounds at the Cannes Film Festival. She’s at nearby Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, where she was vacationing with friends.
Since landing the lead female role in 2012’s Oscar-nominated Danish costume drama “A Royal Affair,” playing opposite Mads Mikkelsen, Vikander has become a hot commodity. Joe Wright cast her in “Anna Karenina,” and she has a slew of upcoming projects. The fashion world has taken notice as well. During Cannes, she was reunited with Mikkelsen at amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS gala in Cap d’Antibes, as a guest at the Chanel table. Continue Reading

Henry Cavill in Talks for ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’
After falling victim to clashing schedules and possibly spy-saturation with Tom Cruise, Warner Bros. and director Guy Ritchie have acted quickly to lock in someone else for The Man From U.N.C.L.E. The studio has turned to a face that promises to be very prominent in its future: Man Of Steel’s Henry Cavill.Cavill is now in talks to star in the film, which already features Armie Hammer and Alicia Vikander.
If he locks in a deal, Cavill and Hammer (which sounds to us like a small-town solicitors’ firm or possibly a pair of mismatched cops) would be Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin, the two top agents of the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement, who fight evil in the form of… Look, you know what? We’re done with the THRUSH jokes. We’ve scratched that itch.
According to Variety, Cavill actually took a meeting about the role Hammer landed when Cruise was still attached, so this might just be a belated case of the stars aligning.
Ritchie is developing the film and looking to get shooting in the autumn. The studio will be hoping for more luck this time out after a torturous previous attempt to get the project on screen, suffering through cast changes and director switches. Continue Reading

Henry Cavill for ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’? ‘Man of Steel’ Star in Talks to Replace Tom Cruise
The beleaguered adaptation of “Man From U.N.C.L.E.” took another hit last week when Tom Cruise left the project, but it’s possible things are looking up for the Guy Ritchie caper. (Cruise bowed out because of scheduling problems with “Mission: Impossible 5.”) The latest buzz out of Hollywood is that Henry Cavill is in talks to take over the role of Napoleon Solo, one of the spies from United Network Command for Law and Enforcement. This is a particularly interesting development for two reasons. One, Warner Bros. is the studio behind both “Man From U.N.C.L.E.” and Cavill’s “Man of Steel.” The latter, which opens in June, will indicate whether or not Cavill is blockbuster material. Back when Steven Soderbergh was attached to direct, the names bandied about for the lead role were as high profile as George Clooney and Michael Fassbender. If Cavill is cast as Solo, it indicates that WB has confidence in its new Superman and the success of “Man of Steel.” Two, as Variety points out, Cavill was aiming for the role of Soviet agent Illya Kuryakin, which went to Armie Hammer. The female lead is still up in the air, but Alicia Vikander from “A Royal Affair” and “Anna Karenina” is currently the top contender.
Will “U.N.C.L.E.” finally get off the ground? Is Warner Bros. going to wait until box office results from “Man of Steel” come in? Sit back and relax, because if the movie’s history is any indication, we might be waiting a while to find out. Continue Reading

• Always gorgeous Alicia Vikander in our Trenchcoat Tarot. Inspired by a men’s coat, during a hungover day in London, this beauty came to life. Now I am talking about the trench, not Alicia… This pic is from south of France, and as you see, the trench keeps the cool in hot temperatures.
